Things To Keep In Mind While Installing A Chandelier

Merriam Webster defines a chandelier as “a branched often ornate lighting fixture suspended from a ceiling.” Lighting has an impact on the mood of a person. So, choosing a chandelier is very difficult. There are many parameters to be considered before installing such an attention seeking light fixture. After all, it becomes a focal point of the space it is put up in.

Here are some guidelines to choose the right size of the chandelier for different spaces.

  • The height from floor

The height of chandelier should be 2.5 times the room height, but in inches. If the height of the room is 12 feet, then 12 feet x 2.5 = 30 feet, so the chandelier should be 30 inches long.

The bottom of the chandelier should at least be 7.5 feet above the floor. The length of the chandelier can be adjusted, in most of varieties available today. So, the necessary changes related to height can be easily achieved, even after installation.

  • The diameter of the chandelier

Add the length and the width of the room in feet. The diameter should be the product of the same, but in inches. For example, 14 feet (Room Length) + 7 feet (Room Width) = 21 feet; The chandelier should be about 21 inches for its diameter.

If it is a hallway, multiply the width of the room with 2.5 and the product in inches would be the diameter required of the chandelier. That is, 7 feet x 2.5 = 17.5, so 17.5 inches is the diameter of the chandelier.

It should be in the center of the hallway or if you want a series of minimal and simple chandeliers, then it should at least be 8 to 10 feet apart.

  • Diameter with respect to the table

The diameter of the chandelier should be ½ or 2/3rd the width of the table. For example, width of the table is 30inch, then the chandelier should either be 30inches x 0.5 = 15inches or 30 x 2/3 = 20 inches.

  • The height from tabletop

If a chandelier is to be hung above the table then the bottom of it should at least be 30-36 inches above. The shape of the table also directs the type of chandelier you choose.
