Half-bedroom

Recently we have started hearing about apartments that are 1.5BHK or 2.5BHK, which makes us wonder what are half bedrooms. This is a western idea that is becoming popular in India. People are also converting their balconies into half bedrooms in the congested cities to get more useable and desired nature of space.
What is half-bedroom?
A half bedroom is an extra room that is multi-functional. It does not have a limit of dimensions, may vary according to the size of the residence; maybe smaller in apartment while bigger in another residence typology. Generally, it caters to various needs of family. It acts as a study room or a guest room with sofa cum bed or an office during work from home.
It is not necessary that the carpet area of 2BHK is less than 2.5BHK, as it depends more on internal space planning but in quantity it has an extra room. Further the function of this room can be changed into walk in closet or puja room or a child’s room. Basically it is a utility room, which can be a den of the family.
Nowadays, the spatial plans of apartment units are flexible, which gives the choice to the user on how to use the space. It can be a balcony, a half bedroom or a walk-in-closet attached to an actual sized bedroom. This small change makes the apartments more suitable for the people to inhabit it.
