How To Design Your Kitchen Like A Professional

Kitchen is the busiest space of the house. it houses many activities apart from cooking, such as the storage and serving. A well-planned kitchen allows you to do all this with minimum waste of time and energy. Hence, it is essential that the kitchens are efficient and ergonomic.

Below given are some of the key dimensions to design a kitchen like a pro.

  • Kitchen countertop

The height of the kitchen countertop should neither be too high which exerts strain while cooking nor be too low that needs bending down. The standard height is approximately 34 inches. The thumb rule is that the elbow should be 4 inches above the top of the countertop. 

The depth of the countertop is 26-24inches depending on the appliances can vary. It also directs the height and depth of the lower cabinets. 

  • Kitchen island

The island in kitchen has many uses. From being a secondary dining table to a working space, an island is multi-functional. To have a comfortable island to cook, it should be 48 inches long and 36 inches wide for 2 people work side by side. 48 inches of circulation space around it is enough and convenient. 

  • Upper cabinets

The overhead cabinets should be 12-15 inches deep otherwise, there is a chance of banging the head while working. The clear space between the countertop and the cabinets should at least be 24-27inches. The distance between chimney and the stove depends on the type of chimney. An angled chimney is suitable when there is less than 24inches of in between space. if it is around 30 inches, a regular chimney must be used. 

  • Lower cabinets

A common approach to maintain uniformity of the kitchen is the equal sections of upper and lower cabinets. The double door cabinets can range from 30 to 36 inches. The drawers under the counter can be equal in heights or the lower one for pots and pans can be 14-18inches and the fair share of 4 inches for the spoons and whisks and 8 for the bowls and napkins. 

  • Appliances

There are multiple appliances used in the kitchen which also come in a huge range of models and sizes. Starting with the one that occupies most space, the refrigerator. Even though it comes in different sizes, leave 2 inches behind and above the refrigerator for ventilation. The kitchen sink should have 30-36 inches on one of the sides to keep the utensils and fruits-vegetables. The height of the microwave can be adjusted according to the use and convenience.
