Loss Of A Great Architect, Arthur Genseler Jr.

Arthur Genseler Jr. died at the age of 85, after a long battle with lung cancer. On 10th May 2021, he passed away in his sleep. It is a huge loss to global architectural fraternity.

Art genseler completed his graduation in 1958 from Cornell University’s College of Architecture. In 1965, he had already co-founded a small studio in San Francisco that has now evolved into the world’s largest architectural firm. It is operating in 50 countries across the globe, generating annual revenue of $1.5billion. He has also designed the world’s second tallest tower, the Shanghai tower.

Genseler worked on numerous projects with varying scale and typography with subtlety gaining more and more expertise. He always incorporated interior design with the architecture to make a human centered and experience oriented design. He advocated for teamwork and promoting collaborative design as an essential strategy for realizing great buildings. As stated by the office that he founded, Art’s “gift to the firm was not a vision for what it could be, but rather an ethos that allowed it to grow and prosper against all odds. That ethos was distinguished by a belief in collaboration, support of design education and career advancement, respect for individuals, dedication to clients, and endorsement of sustainable design.”
For many great buildings, that Art gave the world, and for many design philosophies that he converted into business approaches, it can be said that his contribution to the world architecture is unparalleled.
