A Story Of The House

Tale Of A Home

“Every house has a story.”

-Takashi Yanai

The architecture of residence is considered as the most personal form of architecture. It reflects the character of the people living within. The lifestyle of the inhabitants is evidently seen in the nature of spaces that they occupy. The residential architecture is the embodiment of values and beliefs of a person in the form of architecture.

Residential architecture is a combination of many different fields: history, religion, art and philosophy. The detour from architecture into varied arenas help enriching the architecture. All these are a means to reinterpret the meaning of – home. The combination of the intangible aspects redefines the home.

A house is a once in a lifetime investment for most people. It is like making a lifelong dream come true. The importance and value of such a priceless emotion to be transformed into a form of architecture is a huge responsibility. The urban context, form and building materials all contribute to maintain the consistency of the core values to be inherited by a house. For instance, a window becomes a dynamic picture frame of the outside world. This little change in the perspective of a building element would also impact the choice of material to be used.

The design of residential architecture is like water. The way water always makes a way to flow, a house often finds a way to communicate. There is a constant dialogue between the indoor and outdoor spaces of residential architecture. It is in form of light and shadow of different times of the day, or the different seasons of blooming for a range of flora. The tiny details create new circumstances and new experiences. The glimpse of such situations is often used to expand the narratives. This is what makes the reminiscing of childhood extra special.

A home is a vessel that allows people to be their best selves. Everyone tries something new, creative and sometimes peculiar ways to set designs of houses apart from that of the neighbor next door.
