­­­­We often find ourselves in the dilemma of choosing colors. It can be for the paint in the houses or offices, for designing a logo or some graphics and even the daily confusion of what to wear. Each color says something and also according to the Indian theory of aesthetics for visual arts, navarasa, each color is associated with an emotion. Colors can convey a lot if looked upon closely. People also claim to reveal personality traits on the basis of a person’s favorite color. 

Colors can bring forth changes, drastic as well as delicate. The appearance of a space can be perceived differently with different colors. The meaning of a logo can completely change, with a small change of color. So, it is necessary to understand what colors represent.

  • Black

The emotion attached to this color is fear and power. It is mostly used as the font color for its easy legibility. Black is a sophisticated and reserved color as it lacks light because it has no colors.

  • Grey

Grey is the color of grief and neutrality. It is a common choice to achieve balance between black and white. 

  • White

White color represents peace, innocence and purity. As white is the combination of all the colors, it can express various meanings with equal importance. It is best used to showcase simplicity. 

  • Purple

Purple shows nobility, luxury and magic. Overuse of this color can show arrogance or frustration. This color between red and blue has a soothing dynamism.

  • Blue

The blue represents trust and reliability, when used in literature it shows sadness. It is used to soothe and calm the mind, which makes it a common favorite of most people. 

  • Green

Green is a color of growth and harmony. It is a color which balances between the logic and emotion. It is usually used to represent nature, health and wealth.

  • Yellow

The associated emotion with yellow color is wonder/surprise (adbhuta). It portrays warmth, happiness and optimism. The wavelength of yellow is long, making it the easiest to recognize. 

  • Orange

Courage is an emotion strongly represented by the color orange. It also shows warmth, balance and known to give motivation or enthusiasm. 

  • Red

Red is a color of love and danger. It shows dynamism, passion, power and energy. It easily stands out.  Red is a highly intense color of the color palette.
